Music Picks - Broadway Hush & Cat Power
Thursday, June 29, 2006

I decided I'll do a weekly music pick blogpost.. just to keep myself busy.

My tastes in music has taken a turn for the more mellow. I've been roaming though Myspace collecting music from very small indie bands to satisfy my thirst for new music. A few months ago, I came about Page France, thanks to You Aint No Picasso's recommendation and praise. Since then, I've been very hooked onto their style of slow, indie, and pop melodies. I came across The Broadway Hush, while browsing Page France's myspace page, and found a lovely new and fresh side project of PF. With two members of PF, Whitney McGraw and Michael Nau and a few others, they create great music for those moments when you're daydreaming or driving or walking through the bustling city.

Another sweet sounding female vocalist is Cat Power. I've been listening to a bootleg at La Cigale Paris, performed on Nov. 11, 2005. It's quite a clear sounding bootleg and you can have a listen to it at RBally. It's has jazzy melodies sort of like Norah Jones but with a wee bit of a southern touch.

Buy The Broadway Hush's 7" at Clerestory AV.
Preorder Page France's 2 disc CD, Pear & Sister Pinecone, here.
Buy Cat Power's Greatest Hits at Amazon.

I'm no lover

This limping business is getting on my nerves. I want to walk, run, and be outside. Haven't a clue how I will go to a concert tomorrow night but it's paid and I have to.

Sorry for bailing on you today, Kelly. I owe you a lunch/dinner!

I went to this small vintage postcard shop on Prince Street 2 or 3 years ago, accompanying Ashley on her search for a specific postcard. I cruised the shop to see lots of vintage postcards, inspiring, humorous, and nostalgic. The snailmail generation was on its way out when I came along. In a way, I miss it. I was thinking of heading back to the shop to buy some cards for a future project but while searching for its address online, it's sad to say the small shop had been victim of gentrification when I read this NY Times article.

not so much. The ankle just doesn't want to go back to normal and is still swollen a bit. Two weeks seems like 2 months especially since this is suppose to be my summer break. I need some sort of an ego booster. The doc said I seem like an optimistic person because I always have a smile even when I am the only person who've visited him so many times. I don't know how optimistic I am now since the fucking foot is making me feel like I'm stuck in prison. Grateful that my mother tends to my every needs, I need some fresh air.. and ugh

let's just all agree and say that I'm wasting away.

the sky is falling! nope, nevermind. it's another AC.

the lack of images in every post is depressing, no? well, being cooped up at home all week, practically on bedrest, and being plain lazy doesn't inspire me to shoot.. tho I did wish someone took a picture of my mom washing my hair over the kitchen sink.

what a fat foot!
Wednesday, June 07, 2006

I'm not digging the rain. My 6.6.6 omen happened a day later. While walking back to the gallery with the other intern Sonya, carrying a big wooden spin-wheel, I looked back to Sonya, stepped down to cross the street and wham bam kazam, Jane down. Jane DOWN! The left foot is now swollen, fat-looking, and is mighty painful. I'm sad I couldn't make it to the reception tonight.

Let's say I won't be moving a lot for awhile.

thunder, lightning, and raining hard. it sure was amusing running 6 blocks to the bus stop with the two buds. taking off a pair of wet jeans that is clinging to every inch of my body was the challenge.. but a nice long bath was very much needed and so appreciated being in the comforts of my blue bathroom right then.

try playing mortal kombat with a ddr mat.. it's a good workout.

i need a new place to buy clothes and accessories.. this is getting lame.
