As busy as I am, I find moments to take in a deep breath.

Someone told me in 10 weeks, I will be officially out of college. That's amazing.

Another from the Frat shoot.

I've started a "good advice" folder in my email.

The semester is quickly flying by and the reality of entering the working world is very much evident in my mind. Meg said that I'd very much be likely an gallery artist. I don't know what to think of it. On one hand, it'd be so open and free.. and on the other hand, it's so open and free. No boundaries, no rules, nobody really to please but myself and my bank account. Of course, there are real boundaries in being a gallery artist on the business aspect of things.

Deciding whether to go to grad school seems to be very one sided at this point. I definitely do not think hanging in school for a couple more years is healthy right after you obtain your BFA. I don't know how doctors do it; going to school for so many years consecutively.

So far, whether I hate the projects/classes/professors/ etc, it's all a learning process. It's literally just learning the process of working.

I should really buy http://janetam.com soon.

(someone called me Janet Am one day.. It never occurred to me someone can split my name up that way. I do not like it.)

when we were young
Monday, February 12, 2007

A break from everything would be ideal at this point. It doesn't help that I cannot stand the Photography program, the people, and this campus. I just want to continue my "home" series, start my "grandparents" series, set my own pace, and be in familiar surroundings. My mind can do vicious things when exposed to repetitive situations-- you start to get nitpicky and people get way too slow for my pace. It's horrible the things I say.

There's no drive here.

simple living
Thursday, January 18, 2007

It is still awhile to my 21st birthday. Yes, I can officially and legally go out and get myself drunk and be a fool, though that will highly not happen. I love presents; who doesn't? However, I know I am quite difficult to shop for. So... here's a wishlist. I'd very much rather have books than clothing, jewelry, toys, and all that nonsense.

Thank you and continue on with your day now that I've totally made myself a prick for telling you to buy me presents. haha. Snail mail will be just as or even better.. just 39 cents for a stamp.

from the show.

I head to Asia for warmer weather on Wednesday. Not going to miss Syracuse one bit. If you want something from the Orient, leave me a note/email/etc. Can't promise anything but I'll try.

Just have to get thru tonight's final exam... which I should be studying for.

dead end
Wednesday, November 22, 2006

I'm home and continuing to shoot interiors of homes, mainly mine and my relatives' places. May I state that I hate the mobility difficulties involved of shooting w/ a tripod? (correction: a lightweight tripod w/ a 4x5) It doesn't help that it takes forever to set up a shot. Checking first with the light meter, then the D70, then add gel filters, then loading backs, then praying the backs were loaded correctly and doesn't snag in the camera, then then then. It's a long process. Oh, for the sake of art! I'm realizing that I might enjoy the digital process more since I love instant gratification. Making contacts sheets is gratification. Shooting.. hmm, I don't know how I feel about the process. It's more like, "let's get this over with!"

Anyways yesterday I saw a real dead body in the street (eyes wide open), a lady stopped me in the street to tell me my future and turned out to be a psychic, and a nasty zit appeared above my lip.

happy thanksgiving. it's just any other day for me.

mm, mocking Noah Kalina? :D

I'm home for Thanksgiving break. Spent(ding) a shitload of money on photo stuff. Went to accompany the dad to jury duty. Oh yeah.. let's participate in the government by sitting in the same room for 8 hours, doing nothing, but waiting. So grand.

On a positive note, the lovely Fall Hey, Shot Hot! Winners were announced today! There is some awesome work and I think the panelists did a great job selecting. If you're in the city in December, drop by the reception on the 13th. It will be at the gallery from 6-8pm. The showcase will be up from Dec. 14-17. Don't miss it!

down a rabbit hole
Wednesday, November 08, 2006

My mother has 2 drawers dedicated to family photos.. it's a mess. I went thru them this summer and found 8mm film negatives from the late 70s-early 80s.

So this is shot sometime during the early 80s, around Lincoln Center, with my uncle.. probably shot by my dad.

I love how natural it is.. not overly cheesed w/ the typical touristy expression.

It's almost the end of the semester and it's amazing how burnt out I am.. I'm so lazy I don't want to cook or bake anymore! That's crazy!

About

Jane Tam has moved to a different domain. Please forward your links to http://janetam.com. Jane is a 21 year old Photography student placed in Syracuse University but originally from New York City. She enjoys all sorts of music but you can classify her as the stereotypical indie kid. Slightly offensive and bitter sometimes, this blog is a place to vent frustrations but also a blog to display current photo/art projects as well as encourage new talent from music to art to films; basically whatever tickles Jane's fancy.
